The Shallow Ecosystem on My Desk (150 Day Evolution)
Cutting an aquarium in half is not the best of ideas but it's a lot of fun. You can always DIY a something interesting out of the wreckage, and in this case I went on a journey of restoration and built an ecosystem. There's something about shallow fish tanks that appeals to a lot of people, and I thought my desktop was just the right place to appreciate mine (so that my fish can judge my every move while I edit videos about them).

Homegrown strawberries taste sweeter when you don't have to remember to water them. This time I setup a small, cube ecosystem using an old, used aquarium I found for free on Marketplace. After ripping out the factory filter, I let it develop its own biological one, complete with aquaponic strawberries. How often did you have to clean the tank? Or was it almost completely independent :0 This concept is so cool!!
I haven't done anything to this tank in 9 months besides feed it, and it's doing great :)

Have you ever had an earthquake occur and the tank spilt? I have earthquakes often where I am from so seeing a tank so full (cant think of the right word) makes me scared
It would scare me too! We don't get earthquakes in this country

Btw whats the substrate measurements? Both sand and mud
I aim for 1 inch of mud and 2 inches of sand, but sometimes I fall a little short

I have cichlids and I dig in the gravel and move rocks and make Nest to me completely destroy the tank in a month, I have to go in and readjust everything while I clean it, then I started having babies and I had so many fish I was bringing them to the pet store, once you get an established they're okay but still a lot of work

I’m trying do the cave thing for my new tank but I don’t know what foam to use I can’t find the one your using do you have any recommendations also do you have to use silicone on top of it?
I used foam designed for pond scaping, so it's safe for aquatic life and you don't need to add anything. There are some generic foams that you can use if you silicone over them, but I'm not familiar with any. The brand I used is Touch n Foam in the UK, but there are even more options in say.. the US. Look for pond foam :)

Have I ever had fish? No. Do I plan on having fish? No. Yet I watched all 3 of their videos and I can’t get enough. They’re all extremely well made and you can see the care in each video. I will wait however long it takes for the next one.

Where did you learn all this like do you have and recommended books and can you do this with cold water fish
I learned from UA-cam videos but there is Walstad's famous book if you'd like. You can definitely do it with cold water but you may need some modifications depending on the species
